Costframe vs Microsoft Cost Management
Microsoft Cost Management already handles Azure cost analysis, negotiated billing rates, allocation rules and amortized reservation costs. Costframe adds resource investigations and recorded review decisions for supported Azure scopes. It does not replace Microsoft's billing system.

Keep Microsoft as the billing reference
Microsoft's rating pipeline applies the agreement's price sheet to usage. Cost Analysis, Exports and the Cost Details API expose those rated charges. Native billing access also provides invoices and credits. Cost Management totals are not identical to invoices: taxes, credits and some purchases are handled separately.
Costframe ingests ActualCost as net billed cost. Where a catalog SKU is known, it keeps list-price context separately; a configured discount can reconstruct list context when the SKU is unknown. Applying a discount again to ActualCost would understate what the customer paid. This is a Costframe calculation rule, not a capability missing from Microsoft.

Actual cost and amortized cost answer different questions
Microsoft's amortized view spreads reservation and savings-plan purchases across their benefit period and attributes consumed benefits to resources. It also identifies unused benefits. An upfront purchase can therefore produce very different actual and amortized totals for the same month.
Costframe's current cost workflow is based on retained ActualCost. Its net/list comparison is not a replacement for commitment amortization. Use Microsoft's amortized dataset when allocating the economic cost of prepaid commitments; do not reconcile it directly to Costframe ActualCost without a bridge between the two bases.

Allocation and resource investigation
Microsoft documents tag inheritance and shared-cost allocation rules. These transform cost reporting without changing the invoice. Management-group reporting uses the subscriptions currently in the hierarchy, so moving a subscription can change the historical view.
Costframe retains charges that have no inventory match and shows unallocated amounts. Its supported Azure ownership workflows use configured mappings and dated responsibility evidence. A resource investigation combines retained charges with safe resource context and related findings; current ownership does not prove historical responsibility.

Advisor coverage comes before buying another detector
Azure Advisor already uses configuration and usage telemetry for cost recommendations. Start there if Azure-native recommendations and exports meet the team's needs. Costframe is worth evaluating when reviewers need its finding history, missing-evidence states or ownership workflow for the particular resource types they operate.
The native platform remains the stronger choice for Microsoft billing administration and amortized benefit reporting. Costframe's general audit PDF is disabled during the controlled launch; supported CSV and dedicated Azure desktop report paths have separate permissions and availability.
