How Costframe calculates costs

Explain a dashboard total or export by comparing it with the provider's matching cost records.

    vm-api-02 accounts for €12,482.36. Its charge is part of the scope total, not an additional amount.

The capture is a static example, not a live control. A resource charge alone does not establish spare capacity or justify a change.

Task and prerequisites

Use this method to reconcile a Costframe cost view or export with the provider's cost records. You need permission to read the same included cloud scope and financial population, usable billing data for the selected period and the provider's matching cost view or export.

Ask an authorized financial reviewer to perform the comparison if your role cannot read the amounts. A resource owner or shared link does not automatically grant financial access.

Cost basis

Cost Management ActualCost is stored as provider-billed net cost. A matching price-catalog SKU supplies list context; when the SKU is unknown, a valid configured discount can reconstruct list context.

The discount is never applied again to ActualCost.

Read an estimate on the right basis

In a hypothetical simple-discount example, a resource costs €1,000 at list price and €800 after a 20% discount. If a compatible target costs €600 at list and €480 net, the estimated monthly saving is €320 net, not the €400 list difference.

If the €800 comes from ActualCost, discounting it again would produce an incorrect €640 baseline. The estimate is still subject to the proposed change and later billing evidence.

Currency behavior

Keep amounts in their provider currency. A EUR subscription and a USD account cannot be added into one unlabeled total.

Review them separately unless the report explicitly identifies a conversion basis. Also match the billing period and cost basis: actual and amortized costs answer different questions, especially for prepaid commitments.
